In an effort to promote higher education in the community, SLL conducted a Campus Tour at the University of Memphis for the kids at the Alcy/Ball Community Center.  For many of the kids it was their first time on a college campus.  Given the social and economical struggles that these kids must face on a daily basis, they sometimes only see the despairing picture society paints for them.  The purpose of this event was to instil in them that they can achieve anything that they put their minds to.

Working with the campus visitor’s center and the Magnificent Xi Zeta chapter, we were able to provide a very informative and entertaining tour for the kids.  During the tour, kids were able to tour several buildings including the Ned McWherter Library, Campus Bookstore, and the Pan-Hellenic Council Building.

At the Pan-Hellenic Council Building the kids enjoyed a catered meal while having one-on-one discussions with current college students and faculty.  The kids also got to meet the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Rosie Bingham.  The event was a complete success.
